Making glycerin soap is a fun activity to do with kids. Due to the moisturizing effect of the extra glycerin, this soap is gentle on the skin. Using a clear soap making base gives you the option of putting toys inside the soap for even more fun.

You can purchase large blocks of clear melt and pour soap. After melting, fragrances and color can be added if you want. This melted soap is then poured into molds to harden and cool.

Since melt and pour soap making is so simple, it is a great project for kids. There are no harmful chemicals to mix, so it is quite safe to handle. Children do need to exercise care not to cut their fingers with the knife, and to keep their fingers out of the hot soap.

Instead of using melt and pour soap, you can make your own glycerin soap. Cold process soap making is slightly more complicated and not as safe for children. It will require more adult supervision and help.

When using melt and pour soap, first cut the block into smaller pieces and melt them in the top of a double boiler or microwave. If you plan to add surprises to the soap, put small toys into the soap molds while the soap is melting. Make sure to put the toys in face down so they can be seen from the front of the soap.

After it has melted, add any fragrances you desire. The melted soap is then poured over the top of the toy in the mold to fill it. Leave it to cool and harden without disturbance.

When it is completely cooled and hardened, you can remove it from the mold. If it’s still warm, you will bend it when trying to remove it. After taking it out of the mold, wrap it in clear plastic.

It is now finished and ready for use or giving as a gift. Children will love bath time as they wash their way closer to the toy in the center. Getting clean has never been so much fun!
